Conference

Taking place every two years, our Conference is an incredibly important opportunity for students to have a say in how we are run – and to have their voices heard.

What is the Open SU Conference?

Taking place every two years, Conference is an important opportunity for students
to have a say in how Open SU is run – and to have your voices heard.

On the day of Conference, we always have a packed programme of student-focused activities, sessions and workshops.
Students have the chance to take part in key Open SU business, including questions and answers from their elected teams,
hearing from inspiring speakers and enjoying a range of activities on interesting and fun topics.

Conference 2024

Conference 2024 was held on Saturday 15 June, and we were excited to welcome so many OU students to this incredible event!

The 2024 event was full of opportunities for students to get involved with their union, engage with other students and gain valuable skills.

Since the event was held online, we were pleased to be able to invite all OU students to attend Conference. This meant that
Conference 2024 was our most accessible and democratic one yet.

Our 2024 speakers

The image shows a collage of speakers at Conference including Nick Elston, Susan Cain, Chris Packham as well as Genuine Mwasha and Lou Robinson running the How Bad Are Bananas game.

Voting results

Voting on Conference business empowers our students to impact their experience as an OU student, and, as a registered charity,
it is vital that we get the chance to hear from our students in this way.

Students voted on a number of resolutions at Conference 2024 – all of which passed!

We are so excited to be able to make the changes you want to see to your Open SU.

Background information

Ahead of the day of Conference in June, we held a number of debates in May 2024 (where students were welcome to join in, simply listen or ask questions about the resolution). Students then had the chance to vote on the resolutions in the following weeks.
Students who attended one of these debates also had the opportunity to vote early on the Conference resolutions.

Students were able to vote for two weeks between 24 May and 7 June 2024.
Those who voted on these resolutions were then given access to register to attend Conference itself on Saturday 15 June.
