\n\nTransgender Awareness Week is a time to educate\, reflect\, and act. This session explores:
\n\nWhy remembr ance matters for safety and inclusion today
\n\nThe lived impacts o f stigma and misinformation
\n\nPractical\, everyday allyship in st udy\, work\, and community
\n\nQ&\;A with Dr Downes
\n\nLe igh Downes (they/them) is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology based in the F aculty of Arts and Social Sciences at The Open University. Their teaching and research centres on gender\, sexuality and social justice\, with spe cific attention to how different forms of violence (state\, structural an d epistemic) shape contemporary queer and trans life and survival. They s erve as a co-chair of the OU Trans Staff Network and co-lead of the Inter national Forum on Gender and Sexual Diversity Research in Criminal Justic e. Current projects focus on better understanding the lived experiences o f trans and non-binary witnesses and individual respondents involved in p rotected belief employment tribunals\, and the lived experiences of LGBTQ IA+ distance students here at The Open University. They live with their p artner and two cats\, one of which (Pickle) is likely to make an appearan ce.
