A considerable number of b ooks have been written about the Spanish Civil War\, which started 90 yea rs ago. We have been fortunate to secure the services of \;Dr Alan Sennett \;who is the author of such a pub lication. One of the most complex conflicts in the modern era\, Alan will explain why Spain burst into flames in July 1936. He will discuss how we should understand the causes and nature of the ensuing civil war. This t alk examines the political\, military and social history of the war from both a Spanish and international perspective. It refers to some historica l debates surrounding the civil war\, the Revolution and its internationa l repercussions.

Dr Alan Sennett \;is an a rts and social sciences tutor for the OU and Liverpool University. His ar eas of research and publication concern the Spanish Civil War and film pr opaganda and is the author of \;Revolutionary Marxism in Spain\, 1930&ndash\;1937 \;.< /p>\n\n
