Carers Celebration Week take place between Monday, 8 June and Sunday, 14 June. The theme for 2026 is 'Building Carer Friendly Communities'. As part of this, Open SU is hosting a Carers Celebration Event.

This is a space to bring together carers in a safe space to support each other, and discuss and exchange ideas and information.

About this tour

St Michael’s Abbey is a little monastic community on the Hampshire-Surrey border in the south of England. In 1895, the Empress Eugenie invited a group of French Benedictines to England and they settled in Farnborough. Today the community continues to draw on the richness of more than 1500 years of Benedictine tradition.

Learn more about the multi-faceted history of St Michael’s Abbey as a monastery and Imperial Mausoleum. View the beautiful internal architecture and discover how the monks live by their work in their small farm and apiary, an internet shop, a publishing and printing house and a craft bookbindery.

Please meet your Arts and Humanities representative, Linda Anderson, by 2:15 pm at the main entrance for a tour of approximately two hours.

LRAC, the Arts and Humanities Society, is a non profit making club run by a voluntary group of past and present Open University students who arrange study days, lectures, workshops, museum and gallery visits.

We do not receive any funding from the Open University or other institutions and the fee we charge supports this and other events to help enrich students' learning.

Pride @ The OU - Open SU Trans Action Plan (17/06/2026, 11:00)

The event will focus on exploring the Open SU's Trans Action Plan, highlighting how it sets out to improve trans inclusion across the OU. Core commitments of the plan include:

Improving the consistent recording and use of students’ names and pronouns.
Expanding staff training on trans inclusion and effective allyship.
Publishing clearer guidance on support routes and safety for trans students.
Equipping student leaders with resources to visibly champion trans inclusion.

Held as part of Pride Month, the session will encourage attendees to reflect on how they can support the plan’s implementation and reinforcing Open SU’s commitment to building a safer, more inclusive OU.

A good blether can help us through a tough time, give us the confidence to overcome a hurdle or just put a smile on our face at the end of a long day.

Our Big Blether events are fantastic opportunities to meet fellow students and have a chat. Join us for fun activities and uplifting conversations! All Scottish students are warmly welcomed.

Sessions will last 60 minutes. You can drop by any time between 18:30 and 19:30 and stay for as long as you can. We’ll be hosting breakout rooms throughout the event to give you a chance to chat with fellow students.

The sessions will be hosted on Adobe Connect – this is the platform that is used for most modules in the OU.

We host a Big Blether every month, and you’re welcome to join us whenever it suits you—whether that’s every time or just now and then!

The OU Pride Committee would like to welcome all OU students (LGBTQ+ and allies) to join us every Friday late evening for a couple hours of study in a supportive student environment via Microsoft Teams. Cameras and microphones are optional!

Each session will begin with a 10 minute welcome chat, followed by 50 minutes of silent independent study (mics muted). We will then have a 10 minute break, where attendees are free to put mics back on and chat to each other, before a second block of 50 minutes independent study.

The Disabled Student Group Committtee are pleased to invite you to their monthly drop-in held on the second Thursday of every month.

It is an informal opportunity to chat with other students about anything and everything, and get help and support from the Committee via signposting on any disability-related issues that affect your studies.

Both cameras and microphones are entirely optional, and you can feel free to come along for as long as you'd like to be there.
