The Open University in Scotland warmly invites all new students based in Scotland who are starting modules in October 2026 to join our Welcome Events.

These sessions are designed to welcome you to the OU in Scotland community and help you prepare for study. You'll hear from OU staff, gain practical tips to help you begin your studies with confidence, and learn about the support available throughout your journey.

You'll have the opportunity to ask questions in a friendly and supportive environment and meet other new students who are starting their studies at the OU.

We offer eleven sessions for you to choose from – you only need to attend one:

• Friday 21st August, 09:30 – 10:30

• Thursday 3rd September, 19:00 – 20:0

• Saturday 5th September, 10:00 – 11:00

• Monday 7th September, 12:00 – 13:00

• Wednesday 9th September, 14:00 – 15:00

• Tuesday 15th September, 19:00 – 20:00

• Thursday 17th September, 09:30 – 10:30

• Tuesday 22nd September, 16:00 – 17:00

• Friday 25th September, 09:30 – 10:30

• Tuesday 29th September, 19:00 – 20:00

• Thursday 8th October, 16:00 – 17:00

The event will be hosted on Adobe Connect. During sessions, we ask that all students follow the OU Student Charter.

In this session, Shonil Bhagwat, Professor of Environment and Society, will present on the many ways you can adopt a sustainable diet through food choices. You will leave this session with lots of practical advice, having learned about different food cultures from around the world and how they support a sustainable lifestyle.

Ever wondered what it’s like to step onto the iconic Open University campus in Milton Keynes? Whether you're a current student or a graduate, this is your chance to explore the grounds, soak in the atmosphere, and connect with fellow members of the Open University Psychological Society.

Join us for a relaxed and friendly day exploring the heart of the OU. Our day will start with coffee and chats at The Hub, a friendly spot where you can grab a hot drink and treat before heading over to the Walton Hall campus Library to explore the resources available, browse the shelves, and take in the beautiful surroundings. On Friday 14th August 2026 Open SU will be hosting a student meet-up at the Walton Hall Campus in Milton Keynes. There will be the opportunity to explore the University's Archives in the Betty Boothroyd Library, take a guided tour of the Campus, and find out more about ways to get involved with your student union. The event will run from 10am until 3pm, and attendees are welcome to bring guests.
