Hello, my name is KJ [he/him], a 21-year-old trans gay man from East Ayrshire in Scotland (near Glasgow) with AuDHD, various chronic illnesses and mental health conditions. I am also care-experienced (care leaver / previously a foster kid), and I also support a close family member as a carer.
At the time of writing (October 2026), I am heading into Year 2 of 6 in my journey to get a BSc in Psychology with Counselling, with module D120 Encountering Psychology in Context. Whilst studying, I have also collected a few Open SU volunteering titles - currently these include the Vice-Chair of OU Pride, the Chair of Disabled Students Group (DSG), and a Student Representative member of the Psychology and Counselling Board of Studies (P&C BOS).
As the Vice-Chair of OU Pride and Chair of Disabled Students Group, my priorities/goals are vastly similar:
-
Working with the Support Group Committee teams to continue facilitating a supportive, welcoming, and empowering student community space for LGBTQIA+ and disabled students to meet fellow students and/or access peer-to-peer support. This will be in the form of co-hosting community drop-in events on MS Teams and moderating social media spaces (primarily Facebook and OU Students Connect).
-
Working with the Support Group Committee teams, Open SU staff and Open University staff to continually provide support for LGBTQIA+ and disabled students and identify areas for improvement to the support available to them by advocating for students' needs.
Please do feel free to reach out to me via direct email on kellin.daniels@open.ac.uk or via Facebook Messenger.
I will also be available through the Support Group Committee shared inboxes, which are oupride@open.ac.uk and dsg@open.ac.uk
