Introducing… the Open SU Student Summit!
The Student Summit, previously known as ‘Conference’, is a jam-packed online event that occurs every 2 years and gives OU students the chance to connect, learn, and make an impact. The new name represents what the event has become, reflecting how it has evolved with you. It’s taking place on 21 November this year – and you’re invited!
From removing the upper limit on the number of students who could vote and attend in 2024, to it becoming a fully accessible online space for all OU students, the event has become about more than the formal business.
Alongside shaping the future of Open SU through resolutions, debate and voting, the Student Summit will bring students together to hear from guest speakers, network with fellow students and take part in a range of engaging activities.
How it’ll work:
You’ll still see us mentioning ‘Conference’ as part of the Student Summit, as this will form an important section of the overall event where we’ll address business items.
Here’s what this means:
Student Summit = the whole event
Including:
- Conference
- Guest speakers
- Networking opportunities
- Student activities and discussions
Conference = the formal business section of the Student Summit
Including:
- The ‘business’, including items to be debated and voted on
Why the change?
We want it to be clearer to students what the event includes and encourage more students to get involved. We believe the name Student Summit better reflects the breadth of opportunities available. This proposal was informed by discussions with members of the Student Leadership Team and the Conference Steering Committee.
We'll be sharing more information about this year's Student Summit, including how to get involved, in the coming weeks.
