Vice President Belonging and Opportunities: Kelly Coker

Discover more about Kelly and her role.

My name and role:

Kelly Coker – Vice President Belonging and Opportunities

Can you give some information about your role?

Vice President of Belonging and Opportunities has the great opportunity to work with our clubs, societies, meet-up and event hosts, nation reps, and other volunteers. Through working together we hope to improve volunteer and student engagement by providing great communities and events for students to get involved with.

What made you want to be part of our Student Leadership Team?

I have been involved with Open SU for three years now and have greatly enjoyed my time volunteering, I have met so many great people and have learned so much. I have also had some ideas with regards to our events which I would love to implement, and this role gave the perfect opportunity to achieve that.

What are you hoping to achieve in the 2026–2028 term?

During the 26–28 term I would love to see attendance to events improve. I would love to provide options that open up many opportunities for different kinds of events, that could be run not only online but in person. I would also like to continue the Open SU's good work of making our volunteers and students feel welcome and appreciated.

Tell us some fun facts about yourself!

I am a big gamer – video games, board games and some fun online word games with friends. I watch far too many films and TV series, and pick up hobbies (like I dont already have enough to do, ha ha). I have stashes for crochet, diamond painting and colouring, to name a few. I have also recently been asked to become godmother to my great niece Charlotte (love you lottie sauce!), which is very exciting!

And finally – what do you love about the OU?

I love that the OU is open to everyone, and gives people from all different backgrounds the chance to come and learn to better themselves and their lives.
