This promotion offers entrants the chance to win one of a selection of prizes in the Take the Jump carbon footrpint challenge from 1st to 31st July 2026. The Promoter is the Open University Student Union.
Open University student promotion only. Open to current students who can provide a valid, current personal identifier number for The Open University, or who are extended members of Open SU or who are Honorary Life Members. This promotion is not available to students who are employees of the Open University and its subsidiaries including Associate Lecturers. Employees of Open SU, their families and agents are excluded from winning this prize.

Students can enter as many challenges as they like.
Challenges:
- End Clutter - Something you’ve repaired: something given a new lease of life, repaired or found a new home, rather than throwing it away or buying a replacement.
- Holiday Local - Steps challenge: use a fitness tracker to monitor your steps when you take a walk instead of driving
- Eat Green - Reduce food waste: plan your meals and incorporate three extra plant-based meals per week. Submit recipes and photos of the meals, using seasonal and locally sourced produce.
- Dress Retro – Upcycle: share an item you’ve got from a charity shop that you’re proud of! What’s the oldest clothing item you still wear!? Tell us its story.
- Travel Fresh – Local journeys - show us where you’ve been, using public transport or pedal power! Or bonus points for counting your steps and sending us a screenshot of how much you’ve been walking instead of driving!
- Change the System – make one life shift, here are some ideas:
- Join a local or national sustainability campaign
- Make your home more energy efficient
- Write to your MP to promote sustainable policy in your area
- Publish some online content advocating for a sustainability issue or topic

Prizes (winner of the each challenge can choose their prize, each worth approximately £100):
- National Trust one year subscription
- £100 gift card for charity shop or ethical brand of your choice
- £100 Kip Hideaways holiday voucher
- One year subscription to Odd Box vegetables
- One year subscription for monthly She Grows Veg heirloom vegetable and flower seeds
- The first 50 students to sign up will also be sent a tree from the The Woodland Trust. If the student has no room to plant a tree or does not want one, they can donate their tree to a planting scheme.
Opens at midnight (BST) on Wednesday 1st July 2026 and closes at midnight (BST) on Sunday 9 August 2026.
In order to take part in this free competition, entrants must Sign up via the Take the Jump Registration form. Then, by midnight on Sunday 9 August, students must email their entry to oustudents-projects@open.ac.uk. Entry could be a poster, collage, a selection of images with captions, a video diary or a story about what you’ve done as part of the challenge.
The winners will be chosen by Open SU's student Sustainability Volunteers. The winners will be informed via email by 31st August 2026 and will need to email oustudents-projects@open.ac.uk to organise their prize within a week of being emailed. Students can win more than one prize.
Following the offer, the winner will need to provide their OU Personal Identifier in order to verify their OU student status. After verification is complete, the Promoter will order the prize to be sent to the winner’s chosen delivery address.
Data sharing agreement - your Personal Identifier (PI) numbers are collected to ensure that we receive responses from genuine OU students. If you would like us to delete your personal information at any time, please email oustudents-projects@open.ac.uk
Mailing list and prize winners - by registering to take part in the Take the Jump Challenge, students will be subscribed to a bespoke mailing list for the month of July where we will send you email reminders about the challenge, events that are on and tips on how to approach the challenges.
By entering, you also consent to be contacted in six months where we will ask if students have implemented their habits from the Take the Jump Challenge in the long term.
When you sign up via this form and email us your entry by midnight on 9 August, you will be entered into the competition to win one of the prizes on offer. This will be judged by our student Sustainability Volunteers.
For entry, we require a valid email address. E-mail addresses will be permanently deleted after the six month follow up email is sent.
Please note that if the winner’s delivery address is outside of the UK, the winner may need to pay customs duties, import tax and/or handling fees to receive the item. Any fee(s) will vary between countries. By entering this competition, the winner agrees to pay the fee(s) if applicable.
The Promoter reserves the right to award a different prize of similar value, for example, if the advertised prize is no longer available to purchase. No cash alternative shall be offered.
The Promoter reserves the right to reject those entries which it considers, in its absolute discretion, do not comply with these T&C’s or are fraudulent.
By submitting an entry, entrants will be deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by these T&C’s.
The promoter’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into for non-winning entries.
The promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered or associated with Take the Jump.
The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any entries that are incomplete, illegible, corrupted, lost, damaged, delayed or fail to reach it during the term of the Promotion. The Promoter accepts no liability for entrants’ failure to gain access to this Promotion due to technical difficulties.
