My name and role:
Aimee Prior – Vice President Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
Can you give some information about your role?
As Vice President Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, my role is to make sure all students feel represented, valued and able to succeed, regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances. I will be working with students, the SLT and staff to champion accessibility and inclusion and make meaningful change, making sure all students' voices help to shape decisions. I want to ensure all students feel like they belong at the OU, because they do.
What made you want to be part of our Student Leadership Team?
The OU has changed my life, giving me opportunities I never thought I’d have. As a disabled student, I’ve experienced first-hand how important it is to have people fighting in your corner for positive change. After serving as the Disabled Student Representative, I wanted to take it even further. I’m highly passionate about making sure all students feel heard, especially those from underrepresented communities, and I want to help create a space where everyone can thrive.
What are you hoping to achieve in the 2026–2028 term?
I hope to make the Open SU as inclusive and accessible as possible, whilst ensuring students' voices are at the heart of decision making. I’d love to improve representation across all communities, encouraging more students to get involved with Open SU, and to leave the role knowing I’ve helped make the Open SU a place where everyone feels welcomed, respected and empowered to succeed.
Tell us some fun facts about yourself!
I’m a huge musical theatre fan, I’ve been performing on stage since I was a young child and I now work as a choreographer! I’ve also been in multiple TV shows!
And finally – what do you love about the OU?
What I love about the OU is that it opens doors for people whose journeys don’t follow a traditional path. The flexibility of the OU means people can study alongside work, caring responsibilities, health conditions or other commitments, making higher education so much more accessible. It’s a community where everyone’s life story is so different, and I find that very special!
