Johnathan Doran

Name: Johnathan Doran

Role: Student Trustee

What this role involves:

The Board of Trustees are responsible for the running of the Association's affairs and ensuring the Association is compliant with the financial and legal obligations it has as an organisation.

My priorities for this term:

Facilitating the Executive Team in delivering on their manifesto commitments and contributing to the discussion about the Students Association's long-term structure/processes.

What I’ve been up to and what I’m currently working on:

Until recently I was working as a lecturer in the FE sector but now I’m focussing on my studies and research - including the publication of some prior research projects that I didn’t get a chance to do at the time. I’m also currently the Chair of the Open University Law Society and host its guest lecture series as part of that role.

What I'm studying:

Courses in Law.

What I do when I’m not studying:

My partner and I have a number of little dogs who take up a lot of our time and attention but in whatever remains we’re trying to do some renovations to our house in our spare time.

My top study tips:

Don’t lose sight of the assessment and spend the majority of your time on things that will benefit you in that assessment  - it's very easy to focus on material that you enjoy or find easy but this can leave you at a real disadvantage in exams. Flashcards are an excellent way to begin filling your head with useful facts in the weeks leading up to an examination. Once you’ve written an essay, abandon it for a few days, then read over the marking criteria and perform your edits.
