Overview

Join the OU Environmental Sustainability Society (OUESS) for a conversation with Selina Nwulu, author of the new book Black Climates: Notes on Race, our Environment and Visions for Equitable Futures.

Selina Nwulu is a British-Nigerian writer, researcher and consultant working on social and climate justice. Black Climates is an essay collection, incorporating interviews, exploring the racism and colonialism embedded in the past and present of climate change.

The book includes dedicated sections on disability justice, borders, prisons, community and air pollution. While aimed at Black readers (especially those living in diaspora), the ideas we will be discussing from the book are essential for anyone wanting to understand how race and Blackness relate to the climate crisis and how more equitable futures could be created.

This event is open to anyone in the OU community who is open to new ideas about race and climate justice, no matter your background or existing knowledge on climate. You don’t need to have read the book, but if you would like to make a start before the event you can find out more about it at: https://www.penguin.co.uk/books/450939/black-climates-by-nwulu-selina/9781784744885
