Compete in this 1-day Plea in Mitigation competition for a chance to be crowned the winner of the Winter Advocacy Competition.
This is a great opportunity to practice your advocacy skills and receive critical feedback on how to improve. We strongly suggest anyone with an interest in advocacy to participate. This competition is open to all members.
Prizes (to be used towards funding your legal education)

£50 to the runner up

Competition structure and rules:
Plea in Mitigation problem and scoresheet circulated via email on Friday, 28th November 2025 at 7:00pm
You will be given a competition slot to deliver your submissions
You are permitted 5 minutes to deliver your submission (not including judicial intervention)
You will receive an email at 2:30pm confirming if you have been selected to compete in the final
8 finalists* will be selected to present their arguments for a 2nd time that day in the final at 3:00pm
The Winner and Runner Up will be announced on the day
The final will be RECORDED in front of a LIVE AUDIENCE
*The OULS reserves the right to amend the number of finalists depending on the amount of competitors and reserves the right to determine who the finalists will be.
The OULS advocacy competitions are scheduled once per season, if you miss this opportunity you will need to wait for the Spring Edition to participate (dates tbc).
Advocacy competitions are a great addition to your CV. All competitors will receive a certificate of participation. Finalists will be awarded with certificates, as will the runner up and winner specifying their position.
