I am Katherine Richardson, a mid 40s transwoman from South Wales. I have already completed an open degree with The Open University, and I am currently entering the third level of my second degree, Social Psychology, taking DD317.

I have been volunteering with the Union for many many years, having started back in 2014 as a member of the Welsh nation elected committee (now defunct) and on to Senate Reference Group, which I am still on all these years later, with side diversions in the DSG (Disabled Students Group), and as a meet-up host, student ambassador and Student Rep (what used to be called a CCR).

In all that time as a volunteer, the thing I have always wanted was to help make a difference to students, and to try and make sure that our voices were heard, even when it felt like no-one was listening, and all the while, our Union has done that. I want to help it to keep on doing that, and joining the Pride committee as the Comms Officer lets me get involved that extra amount, and represent us at a time when things seem like they are going backwards socially, so we can stay (as they say) "loud and proud and here without fear".

As the Communications Officer for the Pride committee, I will be helping liaise between our committee, the Union and the office etc, and making sure that people hear from you – our members.
