Online Moderators

Who are Online Moderators?

An Online Moderator reviews and moderates moderating your forum(s) to ensure it is a constructive, positive and safe environments for participants.

Role Tasks

The Online Moderator will :

  • be the point of contact for students using this forum to report to
  • review content on a weekly basis
  • make decisions on the acceptability of content
  • take action to edit or delete posts that fall outside of the Code of Conduct for OU Students Association forums (as we expect all our members to abide by the Values and Behaviours policy including compliance with the University’s online communication systems guidelines) and seek support from OUSA-Controller when necessary or when you or your fellow Online Moderator are unavailable to do so (e.g. holidays/sickness).
  • escalate to any queries or issues that require further intervention under the Resolving and Settling Differences Policy by emailing OUSA-Contoller.

Role Training

  • Mandatory self-directed online essential reading for your role and core training for all volunteers (1hr)
  • Mandatory online MsTeams training session (1 hr).

  • Self-awareness – Personal attributes and behaviours

Role benefits

  • Being part of a team to support positive online communication, building skills in dealing tactfully and consistently with online issues and increasing experience of the application of policies.
  • You will directly contribute to making the forums a safe place for students to engage. This increasing the sense of community and openness within the forum platform.
