Training and support
Our volunteers are the key to delivering our mission and achieving our strategic aims. As proud holders of the Investing in Volunteers (IiV) accreditation, we aim to ensure that you receive:
-
Onboarding: to include an introduction to the Open SU and all relevant information to get you started.
-
Core/mandatory training: to ensure we are all protected and are aware of our responsibilities regarding safeguarding and GDPR, Equality, and our duty regarding Prevent (the duty on Higher Education authorities to have due regard to the need to prevent people being drawn into terrorism).
-
Role specific training: you’ll find training that is specific to your volunteering role in our dedicated Volunteer Zone. This may be in the form of a live webinar or in person training, supporting documents or pre-recorded training sessions.
We also offer:
-
Support: so that you feel supported in your role and know who to reach out in the event of any queries.
-
Building community: so that you feel part of a caring and inclusive volunteering community.
-
Allyship Hub - As a student-led organisation committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, we all share responsibility for creating spaces where every student feels heard and respected. This resource helps you build confidence in listening to marginalised voices, recognising your own privilege, and taking meaningful action when it matters. By engaging with it regularly, you strengthen your ability to support fellow students, challenge unfairness constructively, and contribute to a more inclusive Open SU community.
