Natalie Baker and myself were very privileged to have been at Tim Blackman's official leaving event (as Vice-Chancellor of The Open University) on Tuesday, 13 May at Walton Hall..
Just finding out about how impactful he has been for The Open University and higher education as a whole made me emotional, and I want to take a moment to recognise and honour his remarkable leadership and lasting contribution to the OU community.
I had the privilege of meeting Professor Blackman on two occasions – at an Open University Council meeting and during a committee meeting. His calm presence, thoughtful insights, and unwavering dedication to the mission of open, accessible education left a lasting impression.
His leadership has shaped and strengthened the University, and his reputation speaks volumes across the institution. I’m proud to be part of the OU family – an experience made even more meaningful under his stewardship.
From myself and Natalie, thank you, Professor Blackman, for your outstanding service to The Open University and to the wider world of higher education.
