Open University student and British diving champion Amy Rollinson will soon be representing Great Britain at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.

Amy, who hails from Luton, will be competing in the women’s 3m springboard event. She approaches the tournament in excellent form, after finding success at the Aquatics GB Diving Championships earlier this month.

“I won my maiden British individual title,” said Amy. “I have also competed at four European Championships, where I have claimed two European titles and a bronze medal. I represented England at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, claiming bronze in the women’s 1m event.”

The World Aquatics Championships will be taking place from 11 July to 3 August, with Amy’s event taking place on Friday, 1 August (the preliminary round) and Saturday, 2 August (semi-final and final). It will be an exciting, new experience for her.

“This is my second World Championships, but my first individual event at this level, as last time I competed in 2022 in the women’s 3m synchronised event. At the World Championships, there will be 28 swimmers and 15 divers representing Great Britain.”

Amy made her first international appearance when she was just 16, representing GB at the FINA Diving Grand Prix in Canada in 2021. As her diving career has progressed, so has her academic journey, having commenced her Psychology degree with the OU in September 2023.

Fitting her studies around her training schedule is quite a feat, but Amy has some advice for our students.

“A typical day in the life for Monday/Wednesday/Friday consists of a 6:15 alarm,” explained Amy. “I leave the house at 6:30 to start training in dry dive – a specialist gym where we can improve both strength and technical elements – at 8:15. I get in the pool at 9:30 and finish between 10:30 and 11, then start my second session at 1:15 in dry dive, get in the pool at 2:30 and finish at about 3:30.

“I find it easier to schedule time to study around training times, whether that is on the train or between sessions, and I typically have my laptop on me so if I happen to have some time spare, I can get on with some work.”

Naturally, at the moment, Amy’s main focus is on those World Championships coming up in a few weeks. As Amy confirmed, it’s an event that all OU students will be able to follow and watch.

“It should be streamed on Eurovision Sport and there will be more information posted about it closer to the competition dates on the World Aquatics website.”

Amy will also be posting details on her Instagram account – @amy_r.xo – and we’ll be posting updates on www.oustudents.com and on our Open SU social media channels.

Good luck, Amy – we’ll be cheering you on!
