After more than 50 years as the Open University Students Association, we’re starting a new chapter.
From Wednesday, 21 May, we will become known as Open SU – the union for OU students.
Students have been at the heart of this work – from voting for the change last year to developing our new branding. By using the term ‘union’, we hope to help everyone better understand the important work we do, and raise awareness of the support, representation and opportunities we provide.
Creating a new brand is a big task, and OU students have been involved in every step, from voting for the change, to sending in thoughts and ideas, to taking part in design workshops.
What’s changing?
Next week, you'll start to see our new brand roll out across our online spaces and communications. We'll be using our new name, and you'll see a new logo, colours and imagery.
You might also spot a shift in how we write and share updates. We want to connect with you as clearly as possible – and make it easier for you to find the content and information that matters to you.
What’s not changing?
We’re still here for the same reason – to make a positive difference for all OU students.
We’ll continue to:
- Empower a student voice that is strong and effective in representing the diversity of our members.
- Work collaboratively with the University to ensure that students are at the centre of decision-making.
- Build an inclusive community which nurtures a sense of pride and belonging.
- Provide relevant, quality services which enhance the student experience.
Next week, we’ll be celebrating the start of this new chapter with online activities, messages from our student leadership team, and chances to win some great prizes – so keep an eye out and get involved!
