London Friend – established in 1972, London Friend is the UK’s oldest charity supporting the health and mental wellbeing of the LGBTQ+ community in and around London. They offer counselling, drug and alcohol support through Antidote (the UK’s only LGBTQ+ run and targeted drug and alcohol support service), social groups and volunteering opportunities, all delivered by trained LGBTQ+ volunteers.

Galop – the UK’s LGBT+ anti-abuse charity, supporting victims and survivors of abuse and violence. They specialise in domestic abuse, sexual violence, hate crime, honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and conversion therapy. Run by and for LGBT+ people, Galop offers four national helplines and advocacy services that are person-centred, empowerment-based, and trauma-informed.

The Outside Project – The Outside Project is an LGBTIQ+ community shelter, centre, and domestic abuse refuge supporting those who are homeless, ‘hidden’ homeless, or feel excluded from services due to prejudice. Staffed by LGBTQIA+ volunteers, it provides a non-judgemental space to talk about sexuality, gender identity, relationships, mental health, and more, by phone, chat, or email – every day from 10am to 10pm.

Trans Legal Clinic – a grassroots, trans-led legal service offering free, specialist legal support to trans people across the UK. Operating like a law firm, it provides AdviceUK-accredited assistance in areas such as discrimination, housing, gender-based violence, and gender recognition. Volunteer caseworkers, supervised by pro-bono solicitors and barristers from partner firms, deliver high-quality legal interventions.

Gendered Intelligence – a trans-led charity dedicated to increasing understanding of gender diversity, and improving the lives of trans, non-binary, and gender-questioning people. They offer direct services, education, training, and consultancy to individuals and organisations, while engaging with public policy to influence legislation and media.

Beaumont Society – an organisation dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for transgender individuals, advocating for equal rights and public understanding. They offer a confidential helpline, support groups, one-on-one counselling, and educational resources to support the trans community throughout their journey.

Not A Phase – a trans-led charity founded in 2020 to support trans+ and gender diverse adults in the UK. It focuses on awareness campaigning, social projects, and funding trans+ led initiatives to uplift the community. The charity also works with organisations on diversity and inclusion strategies to promote positive change.

Action for Trans Health – this campaign group works to improve healthcare access for trans* people, prioritising those facing greater barriers such as non-binary individuals or those with communication challenges. They provide small grants, engage medical professionals through workshops and resources, and support the trans* community with health education and advocacy.

We Exist – a London-based trans collective and mutual aid group founded in 2020. Rooted in solidarity, they provide financial support for the healthcare and wellbeing of trans, intersex, and non-binary people amid the UK’s trans healthcare crisis. They also create community through pop-up events, workshops, exhibitions, and the annual Trans* Day of Joy celebration.

House of Rainbow – began in 2006 as a safe space for LGBTQ+ people of faith in Nigeria, founded by Reverend Jide Macaulay. Despite facing intimidation and threats, it highlighted the vital need for support. Now based in London, House of Rainbow is a global organisation supporting sister groups across Africa and the Caribbean, advocating for LGBTQ+ people of faith.

BLKOUT UK – a not-for-profit social enterprise and media/arts collective led by black bi, gay and/or trans men across the UK. Rooted in community and creativity, they aim to empower and uplift, responding to Essex Hemphill’s call to create “an organisation to save our lives”.

Black Beetle Health – began as an Instagram page to highlight the health experiences of LGBTQ+ people of colour. It now focuses on three key areas: Sexual & Reproductive Health, Mental Health & Wellbeing, and Chronic Conditions Management. A growing team of health practitioners and educators creates evidence-based resources to support the community’s health and wellbeing.

RainbowNoir – a Manchester-based volunteer-led social group founded in 2013 by four Black queer women. It celebrates, supports, and advocates for Queer, Trans and Intersex People of Colour (QTIPoC). The group creates safe, welcoming spaces for community connection, including bi-monthly in-person socials and a lively WhatsApp group.

UK Black Pride – the world’s largest celebration of LGBTQI+ people of African, Asian, Caribbean, Latin American, and Middle Eastern descent. It hosts an annual Pride event and year-round activities that champion the wellbeing, culture, and rights of Black LGBTQI+ and QTIPOC communities. UK Black Pride fosters unity, visibility, and safe spaces for diverse identities and experiences.

African Rainbow Family (ARF) – a UK-based grassroots charity advocating for racial justice and human rights for LGBTIQ+ refugees and asylum seekers of African heritage and the global majority. Founded in 2014 in response to harsh anti-gay laws in some African Commonwealth countries, ARF provides psychotherapeutic peer support, advocacy and counselling, and campaigns for global LGBTIQ+ equality.
