Written by Alex Thomas (LGBTQIA+ Student Rep)

Hi everyone

I am hoping for this LGBTQIA+ History Month (1 February to 28 February) that The Hoot will publish at least one article a week about queer history. I am writing a couple myself and it would be great to have other people involved. Below are some ideas for topics you could write about.

If you could comment below if you are going to use one of these titles (so that we don't get two of the same) that would be great. Please also let me know if you intend to write an article – this means I know how many I should write.

  • Who was Roberta Cowell?
  • Who was Alan Turing?
  • Who was Anne Lister?
  • What was Section 28?
  • What was the first UK pride like?
  • A brief history of trans rights in the UK
  • A brief history of intersex rights in the UK

I'm happy to chat to anyone who would like any guidance, formatting and proofreading.

Some tips

Please ensure your articles are 500 to 600 words long.

Submit your Hoot articles between 26 January and 2 February (as it can take two weeks from submission to publication).

Make sure you only use images from the approved sources – Pixabay, Pexels, Unsplash and Canva. If you would like me to find you images, you can email me with what you would like and I'll send you some from Canva.
