We are proud to share that a Trans Action Plan has been created in partnership by Open SU’s Student Leadership Team, OU Pride and SU staff. The plan sets out practical steps to make the OU more inclusive and supportive for trans students.
Key priorities in this plan include:
- Updating processes to record names and pronouns consistently across student-facing systems. Staff will also get training to support this.
- Partnering with external organisations to provide staff training on being an ally.
- Publishing clear support and safety guidance for trans students.
- Giving student leaders resources so they can show visible commitment to trans inclusion.
We have been alerted by one of our student groups to a rise in transphobia at the OU – this plan is part of our ongoing commitment to create a university where every student feels safe, respected, and able to thrive.
If you experience or witness discrimination, you can contact Open SU, OU Pride, or our Individual Representation team.
Please also take a look at our transgender inclusion policy, which sets out Open SU’s efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for trans and gender-diverse students.
