What this role involves:
Creating a vibrant and inclusive OU Students community, where everyone feels welcome, engaged and supported. Organising Freshers’ Fortnight, Students Association presence at various events including tutorial venues and residential schools. Supporting our clubs and societies.
What you've studied and are studying at the OU:
Aiming for the Combined STEM Degree, currently doing MT365 – Graphs, Networks and Design.
Why you decided to volunteer (and any previous volunteering experience with the Association):
I got involved in the Students Association in 2012, after going to a “Meet OUSA” event at the OU regional centre in Birmingham. At the time, I wanted to be part of something, learn new skills, give something back. I started by being co-opted on the regional Assembly Executive, and held most of the community-type volunteering roles. I enjoy very much taking the OU Students Shop to different student events on campus and elsewhere, and volunteering at the graduation ceremonies.
Summary of what you want to do in your role during the August 2020 – July 2022 term:
Increase the number and types of the Students Association online events and places where students can meet and support each other. Continue the work started during the 2019-2020 term on Students Association presence at tutorial venues and residential schools. Support our societies and clubs and reinvigorate the Students Association regional and national online spaces.
Any other interests you'd like to share:
When I am not working, studying or volunteering, I enjoy knitting and crochet.
