    Check-ins from tutors

We need more contact time with our own tutors. Currently, I talk to other tutors (in cluster tutorials) far more than I talk to my own. Tutors should do monthly drop-in sessions for their tutor groups, to discuss any issues, and build that sense of tutor group community. It would also be a great source of motivation. In a ‘traditional’ university, students are surrounded daily by other students and staff, but when you’re on your own as we students of the OU are, there is no one else to hold you accountable for getting your work done. More regular contact from our own tutors and tutor groups would go a long way to support students to complete their courses and make it a more enjoyable, less isolating experience. At the very least, tutors should check-in by email once a month.

3:49pm on 7 Jul 25 I think this could be great as an adjustment but monthly drop ins are likely going to exclude people. I’ve been unable to attend the vast majority of tutorials this year as they run them when I am at work or commuting to/from work. A drop in wouldn’t be recorded and would disproportionately help those who already benefit from Open SU and SHL events and tutorials. Check in by email or the ability to book in time to talk with a tutor would be helpful. I arranged half an hour online with my project supervision tutor recently and was able to pick a day/time I knew I would be able to take the call - I was able to ask questions I couldn’t in the badly timed tutorials

    • Current issues Decorative circle pattern. Submit an issue (and vote on others) which you would like the Student Leadership Team to discuss at their next meeting.
    • Passed issues 'Passed issues' written above a 1940s microphone, on a turquoise background. These are the issues which achieved enough votes to be discussed by the Student Leadership Team.
