    End of Face-to-Face Tutorials

This has been discussed in the Associated Discussion Forum There are 2 parts to this: 1. What is the Association current view on this? We used to be able to quote the Association view using research carried out by OUSA, where students were surveyed using the OU formal survey systems.. However, I feel this is out-of-date, being about 10 years ago. Should the Association seek to repeat this? 2. Lack of consultation I understand there was little consultation on this. Indeed there seems to have been little consultation with anyone before the edict was passed from above. The Association is the official student body, by Charter, and the Student Charter commits to working together. I hope the Association will pursue this in the strongest terms. It is vital that we continue to have a Student Voice, and as a former President has said in the Forum there is a danger of the slippery slope in the current financial restraints.

9:07am on 19 Jun 23 Hi Sandra, I also have major concerns about this because of the changes to the languages courses and removal of the residential schools too. If you haven't, it's also worth pursuing this independently and raising your concerns formally through SST. The more of us who comment on this, the more likely the OU are to listen (possibly, maybe).

2:35pm on 27 Nov 23 This was considered at recent Student Voice and Consultations. It is something brought into discussion a lot by the Student Voice Team though the argument for closing them appears to be centred not on Student Voice but on the poor attendance numbers at face to face events. While I accept it is not worthwhile running a face to face tutorial for single figure numbers of students given venue hire and staffing costs I am concerned about the cut backs to face to face provision. For some subjects it has caused the loss of residential schools that were an integral part of their degree. As a Geology student myself I need access to field experience and while at the moment the programme has maintained face to face field days and a residential the 'slippery slope' concerns me.

8:57pm on 18 Mar 24 They need to be brought back. Meeting your tutor and other students greatly improves our university experience and study skills.
