We are delighted to offer students the opportunity to share their feedback on our draft Institutional Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Plan.
Equality, diversity and inclusion at The Open University has reached an exciting turning point. Our OU strategy includes equity as one of our five strategic goals, bringing a new focus and energy to our ongoing commitments. We are developing an Institutional EDI Plan to build on these commitments and share how we will deliver our EDI objectives.
The Institutional EDI Plan will provide support and guidance for us all to embrace EDI. It is designed to cover specific issues that impact the OU community so that all students feel empowered to promote equity, value diversity and foster an inclusive culture. Through the EDI Plan, we are working towards creating a fair, welcoming and inclusive space, where everyone at The OU can thrive.

Tell us your thoughts
An equitable, diverse and inclusive institution benefits us all and we are keen to engage our students in this exciting opportunity to help us develop the EDI Plan.
We are consulting widely on the first draft and would love to hear your views. By taking part in the consultation, you can help shape our plans to transform EDI at The OU and drive meaningful change for all our students.
We are specifically looking for feedback on:
- Our areas of focus and eight priorities
- Our proposed objectives and actions
- Our overall messaging and its relevance to you as a member of The OU Community.

We are also holding Open Conversations face-to-face and virtually. These interactive sessions are opportunities to find out more about the Plan, share your thoughts and exchange ideas with other staff and students.
Students are especially welcome to join our virtual session on Tuesday 14 June, which is a chance to share thoughts from your perspective as an OU student.
The Open Conversations are happening on the following dates:
- Wednesday 25 May – 2pm–3:30pm (The Hub Theatre, Milton Keynes)
- Wednesday 25 May – 3:30pm–5pm (The Hub Theatre, Milton Keynes)
- Tuesday 14 June – 5pm–6:30pm (online – students only)
- Tuesday 28 June – 12 noon–1:30pm (online)
- Tuesday 5 July –11am–12:30pm (online)

Our consultation is open to all, and we are looking to include the widest range of perspectives from every Unit, Faculty, School and Nation at The OU. At the end of the consultation, we will review and analyse all contributions, and share a summary of the main findings along with next steps.
