Upon the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, a historically significant moment for the UK and globally, the OU Students Association will join the Royal Family and the rest of the nation in mourning the loss of an exceptional monarch.

Out of respect, we have made a conscious decision to postpone some events, promotions and communications – further information on this will follow for those involved. The Association will remain operational throughout, with all student support services functioning as normal.

Her Majesty committed to a lifetime of public service, and demonstrated determination and passion in all that she did. The Open University reminds us that “she was a passionate advocate for the power of education, as can be seen through her support of schemes such as the Queen’s Anniversary Prize and various endeavours over the years. Her visit to our Milton Keynes Campus in 1979, on our tenth anniversary, marked a significant milestone in the development of the Open University, helping to gain further credibility for what was then still an educational experiment”.

Our thoughts and condolences are with her family now as they come to terms with the loss of their beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
