What this role involves:
Responsibility for the Association’s assets, financial management and rules.
What you've studied and are studying at the OU:
LLB (Hons) 1st Class 2013-19
MSc in Finance 2020-present
Why you decided to volunteer (and any previous volunteering experience with the Association):
Initially helped out at my local (Brighton) Graduation Ceremony then got a delegate place at the 2018 Conference which inspired me to volunteer more. Appointed as a Central Committee Representative on the Faculty of Business & Law (FBL) Assembly and later on their Teaching Committee. Elected as Faculty Association Representative (FAR) for FBL in 2019 and VP Administration in 2020.
Summary of what you want to do in your role during the August 2020 – July 2022 term:
I want to work with the staff team to make the Association’s financial information more comprehensible and useful for non-finance people whether on the Board of Trustees, Central Executive or just engaged students. I also want to ensure our internal processes are as efficient as possible to continue to improve the service we deliver to students.
Any other interests you'd like to share:
Retired from paid employment, I volunteer with charities, usually ending up as Treasurer. I am a Justice of the Peace sitting as a Presiding Justice in crime and a Presiding Judge Tier I in family. I am an advanced driver and normally spend the summer volunteering at major sporting events as a driver.
